"Thrilling dynamic portrayal and spellbinding tone" - Opera Today

Teatro Nuovo will perform in the Cole Auditorium on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at 3:30 pm. The concert will feature bass-baritone Daniel Mobbs, one of America's masters of Bel Canto. Mobbs is well-known locally for more than a dozen appearances with Teatro Nuovo's predecessor program, Bel Canto at Caramoor.

Mobbs has also appeared with The Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, the Polish National Opera (Warsaw), Opera Delaware, Opera Philadelphia, Portland Opera, Minnesota Opera, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Tanglewood Festival, and dozens more.

Mobbs will be joined by pianist Rachelle Jonck and a select group of singers reprising scenes from his great Caramoor roles. The immortal trio of Bel Canto composers - Rossini, Bellini, and Donizetti -provide the program. Ms. Jonck, the recently-appointed Music Director of Baltimore Concert Opera, is Principal Coach for Teatro Nuovo. Piano duties will be shared by Will Crutchfield, the group's Artistic Director.

Additional resident Teatro Nuovo singers include Allison Gish (contralto), Maya Gour (mezzo-soprano), Aaron Murphy (baritone), Meagan Sill (soprano), Alina Tamborini (soprano), Steven LaBrie (baritone) and Sarah Vautour (soprano). They will be joined by 2019 studio artists Spencer Viator and Isaac Frishman (tenors).

“Greenwich Library is thrilled to welcome Teatro Nuovo for an amazing afternoon of music,” said David Waring, Greenwich Library’s music librarian.  “Our music offerings this year have included a classical pianist, a jazz pianist, a big-band playing music of the 20’s and 30’s, tango music from Argentina, a jazz trio with vocalist and a string quartet.  Now with this opera concert, we have offered the Greenwich community a panoply of exceptional musical events.”

The Peterson Concert Series is open to all at no charge through the support of the Greenwich Library Board of Trustees and generous donors. Registration, through the Library’s online calendar, is required and will open on Monday, May 20 at 9 a.m. Doors open at 2:45 p.m. We expect a large crowd, so please allow extra time for parking.
